The Chinese government have long term plans that they stick to and fully implement. They invest in R and D, education, infrastructure, logistics and all the necessary supply chains. They create hubs where research and development, prototypes and final products all done in within a small area. This increases development time.
80% of Chinese politicians graduated from MS of STEM and had experience on the STEM projects from local level to national level.
And 80% of Americans politicians are lawyers.
Science and Civilisation in China (1954–present) is an ongoing series of books about the history of science and technology in China published by Cambridge University Press. It was initiated and edited by British historian Joseph Needham (1900–1995). China has several thousand years of tech experience while the West only has several hundred years since the end of the Dark Age.
A Chinese economist said, "the West has 1 day Democracy (Election day)", but many days make a meritocracy work (China's 30-year economic miracle) also: "The Chinese state guides capital and private entities towards what it believes are national strategic priorities, rather than allowing them to simply focus on generating greater revenue." Jack Ma founder of Alibaba & Ant Group thought he could prioritize profit; he was reminded that is not the Chinese way? President Xi Jinping was sent to work on a farm in a rural Chinese village in his youth to instill him with a sense of reality, he saw the importance of local ideas being able to percolate up to the top of the governing body to help all other villages in China.
One swallow does not make a summer. It’s not just a single policy on R&D that turned China into an R&D superpower—it’s a comprehensive array of multidimensional policies. Together, these have transformed China into a beacon of a functional establishment, drawing the world’s best talents to its shores.
At first, the name of the channel and the fake Elon Musk avatar made me doubt the quality of video. Then YouTube recommended it to me three times, so i watched it. Now I'm happy that i did. This video further confirmed my believe about the decline of the US. It is unstoppable.
Great AI work. Anyway - this is a great exemple of what a country can do with competent political leadership. Add the fact that China provides also great education to its citizens. Young Chinese are far more educated than Young Americans.
China is so generous and willing to pay big money for education I remembered back 30 years ago they paid speakers to speak in China for £1000 per hour (30 yrs ago)including free food/accomodation etc. It's about they are willing to invest in people and very respectfully...Cause and Effect must be.
China 🇨🇳 is a multi-cultures country and welcome talents all over the world
In addition, funding and resources for science development are generous with long term goals, usually around 10 years or even more, which would benefit the wellbeing of the people.
The conclusion is that China should encourage all the best brain in Science and Technology from all over the World to come to China to work and do research.
Do not kill the black bears in Taiwan, and Do not kill the 500 brown bears in Romania; these animals are innocent life! May God bless these bears and everyone
And don't forget the 4 million Chinese STEM engineers that graduate each year. That dwarfs US numbers. It's a technological battle (or war) the US cannot win. And boy, it makes them fume with anger.
A lot of people claim China produces cheap low quality goods, and China mainly did in the past, but what they won’t mention is the fact that the reason for that is because the American and European companies come to China to produce cheap low qualiry goods in great volumes so that they can take those goods back to their own country to sell them for big markups so that they could make a big profit! Whenever any American or European companies want to make high quality products in China they always get the high quality products that they sought so that they could take the high quality goods back to their own country, as well as to countries all over the world, including China, for big profits! China can make the best or the worst products for anybody, it’s all depends on what you want and what you’re willing to pay! China has the most highly educated population in the world and the Chinese workers are extremely skilled, smart, and hard working and they can make any products that you want! It’s all up to you to decide what is the level of quality that you want and what kind of money you’re willing to spend! But regardless of the quality of the products that you’re interested in making always remember China will always be among the best countries in the world, if not the best one, to give you the most bang for your buck!
There is one point I wish Mr. Musk had elaborated. That is the mentoring effect of these top level scientists on young team members. In case of scientists like Povey, he went to China alone. His whole team would be Chinese PHD students. In case of scientists who brought with them their research team, some team members will go on to bigger and better jobs, and new team members will be Chinese PHD students.
There is no better education than working under the direction of a world class mentor. And that education will benefit those PHD students for decades, imprinting on them the values and attitude and way of thinking. China got way more than the research results mentioned in this video. China got a new generation of scholars with very diverse way of thinking about research and the relationship between science and society. The effect will last decades, at least.
its simple, because China is rich now so there is plenty capital to go around to make technological experiment possible, for example China had the EUV machine techonogy research papers 30 years ago but never had the money to turn it into reality.
To try to "Make America Great Again" is acknowledging WE ARE NOT. Trying to slow down China will not help. Focus on quality of American people, will [intelligence, sense of community/solidarity, work ethics, attitude for continuous improvement, etc.].
I would like to add one more thing: scientists and researchers are particularly respected in China. Anyone will look at you with more admiration if they know you're a scientist. For example, in the American TV show The Big Bang Theory, I feel like the four main characters are not particularly popular or admired in the U.S. But if they were in China… at least Mr. Howard Joel Wolowitz would be very satisfied. He would definitely never lack companions.
The different between China and its neighbour, China acknowledged support from others and thank them, but its neighbour claim greatness its own. Second its not just money but attitude
America has attracted even more foreign talent than China, like one South African, but the talent unless its athletic or money focused, is never that well respected in America.
DOGE. One thing is to have the talent, and another to know what to do with it. Efficiency in government is not quite a technology problem. First determine what design the Department, Bureau, Office, etc. should have, then make it efficient.
Elon, don´t worry, you Americans can import more brilliant Democratic Indians 1.4 billion make America even greater than Donald Trump, you have to work with Vivek Ramaswamy or not
Amazing analysis and Observation, Western Countries loss is China's Gain, China is a Very Pragmatic Country, all that matters is Results, they don't bother about unnecessary things
Do not kill animals, do not harm animals, it is strictly forbidden to kill dogs and sell dog meat, do not kill dogs, do not eat dog meat, protect animals, love animals, all things have spirits! Do not give up any opportunity to save lives!! Good deeds will be rewarded!! Evil deeds will be punished!! Do good deeds and accumulate virtues, and blessings will come!!
I remember at the beginning of this century, when Dave Chapelle was explaining to Oprah why he had left the comedic scene. It was because people want to position themselves in the organization, so they will receive benefits just for being there.
I guess the same happens with tech talents.
This is NOT Elon Musks voice! It is produced by a voice emulator! So, is this his talk or is the whole production produced by another without being approved by Mr. Musk?
China 🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳 welcome anyone and everyone China is a friendly Country but America is too pround only give great jobs to his or her own relatives regardless of his or hers qualifications . Because America was in the game of Power , War and distabiling other Governments
This is only one side of the coin to suit a focus view , I may not be as eloquent, nor have the academic gift of my young friend, all that I can give you is an account of a structure that major western countries especially the us has enshrined in their behaviour and this is why many will get recognition elsewhere. For years I have been arguing that the supposed astronomical cost of R & D has been, (a) a tool used by wealthy capitalist to neutralise their profit to minimise their tax. (b) an incentive for them to demand extra funding from governments (c) duped unsuspected volunteers in grief to raise more money for them (d) the last and most despicable act, is to finance political donations and lobbying to ensure an artificially inflated price for decades. The Chinese are proving that sometimes a strong government with true executive powers in needed to ensure the mass can profit from innovations at an affordable price. The US inability till now not being able to have a fast train is not because of government and regulations rather because of existing oligarchs that are protecting their source of massive profits no matter how broken and archaic the system is.
Human innovation (progress) comes in bursts. Innovation is also not the norm in human history and it never will.
What usually happens is that an innovative breakthrough appears at the right time under the right circumstances, creating a wealth boom. Then societies live of that surplus - until the next wealth generating innovation arrives or the increasingly complex society collapses.
Innovation in the western hemisphere arguably peaked as far back as the 1870's and we have been running on fumes since the 1970's. But what about ICT?
Contrary to popular belief the ICT revolution we saw over the past 30 years did not create wealth for the masses in the developed world. Quite the contrary - living standards have actually declined for the bottom 90%. In the developing world this new technology has been far more beneficial for the population as a whole, but here even small and incremental improvements can still have a big impact.
Innovation is no longer profitable in many if not most fields of technology and has become throwing good money after bad. It is important to the more concentrated wealth became, the worse the outcome of innovation has been.
I see no realistic way to reverse this trend as we are hitting a technological ceiling.
Notice the number of times he said 'COME TO CHINA'. Now reflect on the role of Asian and European scientists in America's tech sectors and, yes, America's financial sector. And consider the current move of technical talent and process to China. Consider the effects of American racial hostility and American hubris. All because American leaders of those past years knew no such thing as foresight. Far too focused on "The NOW".
Chinese and Japanese are brother and sister. The people of two countries don't have conflict. No surprise there are a lot Japanese scientists work in China.
I always knew there was something suspect about china's sudden rise to super advanced technology it wasn't like Chinese tec was coming out of a rice field and my suspect was right the best minds in the world was migrating foreign scientist to China due to a hoste of reasons (as said in narration) this is truly fascinating which brings me to Vevek Ramisswami point. The introduction of foreign highly skilled students. He and Nazi EWOK were seeing the brain drain but I'm guessing the political situation at the time or even further back fell on deaf ears now china's so far forward in science break through that in Trumps right wing ignorant America they don't care they would rather beat the war drums to make there point.
According to dictionaries [Merriam-Webster, Oxford] the word "smart-ass" was used starting the 1950s.
It seems an attempt ... to insult and isolate those who demonstrate knowledge ... or to compensate for ignorance and not feel inferior.
But it is also an excuse for not trying to be better. This is how we can date the moment the West started being mediocre.
welcome to high quality AI propaganda, we will soon be immersed in it and fail to distinguish how much of it is true... the US could make the same video about immigrants and foreigners making similar contributions to US success. It's a competitive world.
I understand that rules [and laws] are necessary, but they should neither be taken as a substitute for, nor have prevalence over good reasoning. The problem is that "being respectful of the law" seems to be a "good attribute of a citizen"; however, it is actually the denial of the principle mentioned above.
We have become SLAVES TO THE WRITTEN WORD ... even worse if it is poorly written.
Shames on countries once best for every things but money got in the way. Crushed. Fix it if we didn't want to fall behind. Don't let our greeds take control. And shames on those scientists go work for the enemy.
Why did Elon take Tesla to China? Was it affordability and growth, would rockets and going to the moon from China be cheaper then America? Is Tesla moving back to the US?
China is getting better in the last 40 years. it is true...... But the USA is still the best. let's see how many ppl would migrate to the USA, if opens door? and how many to China?
I've always believed that the best education is one that OPENS THE MIND of the person [regardless of their age]. From that moment on, they will be asking for more because motivation/hunger will come from within.
Education is a tool, and HOW IT IS USED depends on the culture of the people [some old writings can help us understand].
In the West, Aesop's "Fables" stress the individual, whose nature we have to accept, and learn to work around it, to attain our own individual goals. Smith's "Wealth of Nations" suggests [to many] that by looking for our own interests, each one is contributing to the benefit of society as a whole.
In the far East, we have Confucius' "Analects" that are more normative/prescriptive than "positive"/descriptive. Authority and respect are stressed, as well as a sense of community [not individualistic].
The point, here, is which system is more efficient. It seems to me that the West is less collaborative, since each team member could be driven by the "dog eat dog" sentiment. However, in the far East the respect can turn into acceptance of dogma, that works against creativity.
Like in all systems [human creations], the degree of perfection is limited by the "perfection" of their creators, and always NEED TO BE MONITORED. [Therefore, my refusal to give decision power to AI]
If we judge the technology development of China by the latest flagship phone of Samsung they didn't find anything on the back side of the Moon for sure.
