China has come a long way since the establishment of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) in 1949. From a poor agrarian society, it has now emerged as an industrial powerhouse, contributing nearly 30 percent of the world's economic growth. It has even overtaken Japan as the world’s second largest economy and lifted 800 million people out of poverty within just a single generation.
But 70 years on, the Communist Party of China under the leadership of its strongman President Xi Jinping is facing the greatest test of its leadership. The continuing social unrest in Hong Kong, a slowing economy and the escalating trade war with the United States are threatening its undermine his China dream. Can the tremendous progress that China has achieved so far simply falter from now on? Or will China continue to prevail as a force to be reckoned with in spite of all these challenges 70 years after its birth?

I am 100% Chinese born in Cambodia and my family fled Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge and came to America when I was 8 years old and it was a struggle for my family to integrate into society here in the United States Of America but we managed. After watching this documentary,it warms my Heart to see that the China is progressing and I am extremely proud to be Chinese.🇨🇳
For me..the capability, hardwork, intelligence & the real motive that china has is incredible...such growth in a short span of time (incomparable).🇨🇳
Much respect from India🇮🇳
Deng Xiaoping came to Singapore in the 80s and befriended Lee Kwan Yew. Since then hundreds of Chinese diplomats has been visiting Singapore yearly to learn. Singapore contributed greatly to China's development and i hope this friendship will last forever. Love China!
Back in 1992 Francis Fukuyama, an American economist published a book with the very humble title 'The End of History ...', in which he argued that Western Civilization had been so successful that every country in the world had to adopt Western ideas and beliefs if they wished to be prosperous. In fact, in the future all countries were going to be Westernized.
In effect, history was over and there was nothing left to write about - the West was victorious and the rest had been annihilated.
This is how the West went to sleep and meanwhile on the other side of the ocean, a giant woke up. History did not end but the history of Western domination may very soon come to an end.
Say what you want about China but the way they reformed their country and the way they modernized is extraordinary. Xi Jinping is many things but he truly has a vision for his country.
I am 82 years old , am glad to see China rising to be one of the strong nations in the world within my life time ! George Wu, AIA, Architect, NCARB 2019-10-14
Love China. This progressive country has helped my country Kenya progress alot in transportation infrastructure, can't wait to see a Chinese led future.
Very good summary of the growth of China after cultural revolution. I learned a lot. I'm really amazed by the quality of contents Singaporean CNA have produced on China related topics. It's truly exception in quality and the attempt to be unbiased in their reporting is well appreciated.
It was an unbelievable achievement. Why? I could not even believe when I can not finish my dinner and my grandparents tell me how they had to eat grass and tree skin to be able to survive when they were young.
There is no way, we tried to focus on inner issue, then British came. We wanted to develop economy since 1930, then Japanese came. Without strong military, we would be bullied again and again, this world is cruel!!!
Chairman Xi deserves a Nobel Peace Prize! for his vision and accomplishments that have benefited so many people. I was fortunate to have met Mr.Zhu Rongji, and was impressed by his vision, aspiration and initiative.
The rise of Chine gives me goosebumbs and shows and proves to me that African As well also needs leaders who are hungry for a bigger African a Giant Africa and We Can with in a span of 20years rise from the world sad story and being called 3rd world to become a World power who will speak and the world must listen. This is my Black Hydra
i am a 23 y.o. chinses man living in china. my grandfather didnt even have a bicycle to ride on. today i own 3 new porsche 911, 3 new lambos, 5 rolex watches and 3 huge homes. all this change in a very short time.
This proves the greatness of China as a civilization.... Italy tried to revive their roman empire but failed, the Arabs tried to revive thier islamic civilizations but failed... etc etc
After centuries of Western domination and humiliation at Western imperialists, we now have an Asian super power on the global stage. This heralds the beginning of the return of Asia, the world shifting back to its natural state of things before the industrial revolution. Asia got left behind because China got too complacent after 2 centuries of Qing rule and various Indian kingdoms warring at each other. Now China has risen, India is gaining momentum and putting itself back together. Now for the Asia as a whole to come together, set aside our differences, see the bigger picture and march towards co prosperity. Never again we will fall to divide and conquer by outsiders.
Nice documentary.
This help me understand China better.
I’m from Malaysia. China has traded with Malaysia for 2000 years. In those years, they had been the world’s biggest powers many times. Never once they sent troops to take our land. Admiral Zheng He came to Malacca five times, in gigantic fleets, and a flagship eight times the size of Christopher Columbus’ flagship, Santa Maria. He could have seized Malacca easily, but he did not. In 1511, the Portuguese came. In 1642, the Dutch came. In the 18th century the British came. We were colonised by each, one after another.
When China wanted spices from India, they traded with the Indians. When they wanted gems, they traded with the Persian. They didn’t take lands. The only time China expanded beyond their current borders was in Yuan Dynasty, when Genghis and his descendants Ogedei Khan, Guyuk Khan & Kublai Khan concurred China, Mid Asia and Eastern Europe. But Yuan Dynasty, although being based in China, was a part of the Mongolian Empire.
Then came the Century of Humiliation. Britain smuggled opium into China to dope the population, a strategy to turn the trade deficit around, after the British could not find enough silver to pay the Qing Dynasty in their tea and porcelain trades. After the opium warehouses were burned down and ports were closed by the Chinese in ordered to curb opium, the British started the Opium War I, which China lost. Hong Kong was forced to be surrendered to the British in a peace talk (Nanjing Treaty). The British owned 90% of the opium market in China, during that time, Queen Victory was the world’s biggest drug baron. The remaining 10% was owned by American merchants from Boston. Many of Boston’s institutions were built with profit from opium.
After 12 years of Nanjing Treaty, the West started getting really really greedy. The British wanted the Qing government:
1. To open the borders of China to allow goods coming in and out freely, and tax free.
2. Make opium legal in China.
Insane requests, Qing government said no. The British and French, with supports from the US and Russia from behind, started Opium War II with China, which again, China lost. The Anglo-French military raided the Summer Palace, and threatened to burn down the Imperial Palace, the Qing government was forced to pay with ports, free business zones, 300,000 kilograms of silver and Kowloon was taken. Since then, China’s resources flew out freely through these business zones and ports. In the subsequent amendment to the treaties, Chinese people were sold overseas to serve as labor.
In 1900, China suffered attacks by the 8-National Alliance(Japan, Russia, Britain, France, USA, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary). Innocent Chinese civilians in Peking (Beijing now) were murdered, buildings were destroyed & women were raped. The Imperial Palace was raided, and treasures ended up in museums like the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris.
In late 1930s China was occupied by the Japanese in WWII. Millions of Chinese died during the occupancy. 300,000 Chinese died in Nanjing Massacre alone.
Mao brought China together again from the shambles. There were peace and unity for some time. But Mao’s later reign saw sufferings and deaths from famine and power struggles.
Then came Deng Xiao Ping and his infamous “black-cat and white-cat” story. His preference in pragmatism than ideologies has transformed China. This thinking allowed China to evolve all the time to adapt to the actual needs in the country, instead of rigidly bounded to ideologies. It also signified the death of Communism in actually practice in China. The current Socialism+Meritocracy+Market Economy model fits the Chinese like gloves, and it propels the uprise of China. Singapore has a similar model, and has been arguably more successful than Hong Kong, because Hong Kong being gateway to China, was riding on the economic boom in China, while Singapore had no one to gain from.
In just 30 years, the CPC have moved 800 millions of people out from poverty. The rate of growth is unprecedented in human history. They have built the biggest mobile network, by far the biggest high speed rail network in the world, and they have become a behemoth in infrastructure. They made a fishing village called Shenzhen into the world’s second largest technological centre after the Silicon Valley. They are growing into a technological power house. It has the most elaborate e-commerce and cashless payment system in the world. They have launched exploration to Mars. The Chinese are living a good life and China has become one of the safest countries in the world. The level of patriotism in the country has reached an unprecedented height.
For all of the achievements, the West has nothing good to say about it. China suffers from intense anti-China propagandas from the West. Western Media used the keyword “Communist” to instil fear and hatred towards China.
Everything China does is negatively reported.
They claimed China used slave labor in making iPhones. The truth was, Apple was the most profitable company in the world, it took most of the profit, leave some to Foxconn (a Taiwanese company) and little to the labor.
They claimed China was inhuman with one-child policy. At the same time, they accused China of polluting the earth with its huge population. The fact is the Chinese consume just 30% of energy per capita compared to the US.
They claimed China underwent ethnic cleansing in Xinjiang. The fact is China has a policy which priorities ethnic minorities. For a long time, the ethnic minorities were allowed to have two children and the majority Han only allowed one. The minorities are allowed a lower score for university intakes. There are 39,000 mosque in China, and 2100 in the US. China has about 3 times more mosque per muslim than the US.
When terrorist attacks happened in Xinjiang, China had two choices:
1. Re-educate the Uighur extremists before they turned terrorists.
2. Let them be, after they launch attacks and killed innocent people, bomb their homes.
China chose 1 to solve problem from the root and not to do killing. How the US solve terrorism? Fire missiles from battleships, drop bombs from the sky.
During the pandemic,
When China took extreme measures to lockdown the people, they were accused of being inhuman.
When China recovered swiftly because of the extreme measures, they were accused of lying about the actual numbers.
When China’s cases became so low that they could provide medical support to other countries, they were accused of politically motivated.
Western Media always have reasons to bash China.
Just like any country, there are irresponsible individuals from China which do bad and dirty things, but the China government overall has done very well. But I hear this comment over and over by people from the West: I like Chinese people, but the CPC is evil. What they really want is the Chinese to change the government, because the current one is too good.
Fortunately China is not a multi-party democratic country, otherwise the opposition party in China will be supported by notorious NGOs (Non-Government Organization) of the USA, like the NED (National Endowment for Democracy), to topple the ruling party. The US and the British couldn’t crack Mainland China, so they work on Hong Kong. Of all the ex-British colonial countries, only the Hong Kongers were offered BNOs by the British. Because the UK would like the Hong Kongers to think they are British citizens, not Chinese. A divide-and-conquer strategy, which they often used in Color Revolutions around the world.
They resort to low dirty tricks like detaining Huawei’s CFO & banning Huawei. They raised a silly trade war which benefits no one. Trade deficit always exist between a developing and a developed country. USA is like a luxury car seller who ask a farmer: why am I always buying your vegetables and you haven’t bought any of my cars?
When the Chinese were making socks for the world 30 years ago, the world let it be. But when Chinese started to make high technology products, like Huawei and DJI, it caused red-alert. Because when Western and Japanese products are equal to Chinese in technologies, they could never match the Chinese in prices. First world countries want China to continue in making socks. Instead of stepping up themselves, they want to pull China down.
The recent movement by the US against China has a very important background. When Libya, Iran, and China decided to ditch the US dollar in oil trades, Gaddafi’s was killed by the US, Iran was being sanctioned by the US, and now it’s China’s turn. The US has been printing money out of nothing. The only reason why the US Dollar is still widely accepted, is because it’s the only currency which oil is allowed to be traded with. The US has an agreement with Saudi that oil must be traded in US dollar ONLY. Without the petrol-dollar status, the US dollars will sink, and America will fall. Therefore anyone trying to disobey this order will be eliminated. China will soon use a gold-backed crypto-currency, the alarms in the White House go off like mad.
China’s achievement has been by hard work. Not buy looting the world.
I have deep sympathy for China for all the suffering, but now I feel happy for them. China is not rising, they are going back to where they belong. Good luck China.

Yes, Mao disastrous policy caused millions of death in China, but think for a while. The Nationalists had escaped with all the wealth , elites , human capital to Taiwan. US also embargoed China in 1950. That means China had zero foreign capital , lack of economic experts to run the economy well . Only 600 +million poor peasants to support her.The only help came from USSR which severed ties and stopped all aid to China in 1960 due to ideological differences. Thus, Mao had to divert the bulk of the ctries resources to the military industrial complex because USSR ,Taiwan would invade China anytime during those era. Moreover , China heavy military industry was already in progress and could not be given up even though USSR experts or technicians have all left. Thus, light industries such as consumers goods and others had to be sacrificed . Hundred of millions were jobless . People communes were one way to solve this problem.Cultural revolution is another way used by Mao to purge certain party members as well as to drive all these youths away from cities to rural areas to work for the peasants so that social upheavals will not occur in the cities.
India is going to be the most populous country in few years but we as a nation has nothing learned from Chinese story. We just compare ourselves with Pakistan only ignoring the fact that the giant above us has done tremendous reforms and utilized its potential. We are people think about our glorious past but doing practically very minimal to achieve what we were 2-3 thousand ago. China got really good leaders, I hope someday good sense will prevail in our leaders and people too.
It is ridiculous to portrait the Mao period as dark age when Chinese started her industrialization , produced Nuke bomb independently, sent satellite into the space. The reason western media so eager to blacken Mao is so obvious that Mao represents the true spirit of Chinese culture, fearing nothing and fighting against all the odds. Ordinary Chinese are all grateful to Chair Mao for the life he gave to this country.
Alex Ma is quite correct when he says Deng moved with the times and his gamble paid off. I wish we in India had done the same. We live in a much more complex and closed world today! I hope we are able to write our own development story.
This is a great channel and a very balanced coverage of the issue.
Seeing how China’s leaders have been able to lead and transform a poor nation into a world economic power and lifted its entire population out of poverty in a mere 40 year period, has made me proud to be a Chinese, albeit one who hailed not from China but from a South East Asia nation.
I like the last remark she said " In talking about current challenge of US-CHINA trade war intentions ,for example , their response are consistently measured. China ,According to them ,has been facing obstacles and hardships at every turn in their 5000 years of civilization ,and not just on this occasion of their 17th anniversary , this is but a smell hiccup on the spectrum of time. "
Amazing informational video that highlighted many perspectives! It was so refreshing to see content on China that uses factual information from its history and explains its rise in detail through different lenses. Hope to see more content like this in the future!
China has achieve so much and they call it working progress, imagine when they are fully developed? it will be something that the world have never seen before.
Hope China continues its path to take its rightful place as one of the leading civilizations and continue to be a positive force in the world. The growth and improvement in the last few decades have been nothing short of amazing. Cheers, China.
There is an old saying in China: The world must be united for a long time, and it must be divided for a long time. This means that no empire will never decline. The dynasties of China's thousands of years of unified Confucian culture have only changed in accordance with the historical trend and changed from the empires of Spain, Portugal, France, and the United Kingdom to the United States. Any empire will have a day of decline. You can’t resist when fate arrives.
There is a lot the UK and China can establish through clearer relations that we can learn from each other for the betterment of human development and our potential for economic prosperity together.
I am 91 years old. My grandparents emigrated during the Poverty years of China in the 1800s! I am so proud of China’s achievements and my children and grandchildren can be proud of their Chinese heritage! well done, President Xi. Peace to the world and prosperity to China!
China rise is of hard work and even her own sacrifice never in the expense of others. Really a miracle in such a short 4 decades for such a big and populous country
The yellow skinned people are very hardworking, diligent and smart thinking, they will always survive. They may be down sometimes, but they will always pick themselves up.
Why do people want to decide what is good for China? Let her people decide what they want. A society is built from its historical and cultural traditions and any drastic change will cause upheavals which the people may not be able to cope with. As long as they do not impose their form of governance to others, they should be not reason for the rest of the world to worry about. For the outsiders, we should admire the hard work the Chinese people have undertaken to create what they have to-day. It is obvious that some powers seem unhappy that this billion plus people simply refused to accept what they deemed to be the perfect society where the poor has to remain poor if you do not have the resources to improve yourself. There is no minimum support like "let there be no poverty at $XXX income per year". Yes, if you are not prepared to struggle in the city, stay put in the rural area so that you could at least work in the farm. Such approach may seem unacceptable to some but it permits those unable to compete in the city an option in a lesser competitive scenario. Come 2030, maybe the world would see a different China!
China is to be deeply admired. All the military hardware such as fighter jets, helicopters, tanks, machine guns, submarines, and other military arsenal's you name them, were built by China itself.
great documentary, it's one of the few foreign documentaries that actually sets China within the right frame of mind, seeing the PRC as a continuation of the Chinese civilization since antiquity.
CCP's ideology even under Mao have always had elements of traditional Chinese governing philosophy, Mao is known to be favor the traditional Chinese governing philosophy of Legalism. and imperial China have always had the system that combines Legalism and Confucianism,.
Today China is the same. it has a system of Legalism and Confucianism with socialist characteristics. China will forge ahead and reform and find a system that best suits their needs, I personally believe President Xi is the right guy for that job.
The Chinese people will be forever remember as what it means for a people united by common vision to build a prosperous nation from the loots of extreme poverty to the reigns of wealth—committed to enhancing the human capital of the country! Africa relationship with China shouldn't be based on aid, or protracted loan! African leaders must approach China with the mission to learn, apply lessons and forge win-win partnership!
With Africa's huge population dividend, what we need is perhaps leaders with economic vision, and faith in the people. African leaders must start to believe that the solution to Africa's economic miracles is not found in our large Churches or Mosques! We need solid market-based reforms, one-currency, free trade, and investment in Agriculture, and infrastructure!
An average western person doesn't understand chinese language, but most chinese understand certain degree of english.
The west has virtually zero engagement on the narratives circulating in the chinese internet but china can easily engage and understand the ideas and trends on the "english" internet.
West is too full of itself to understand or learn from china, but china can weigh in both western and chinese ideas.
Who is gonna win?
There’s got to be a time for us. I thought it’s always going to be a white mans world. Easternization has to rise up.
But even Shakespeare said; there’s always an end to every madness.
Doesn’t matter if it’s black cat or white cat, as long as they catch mice, they are good cats. Tun M, u r also running out of time.... please see beyond race and religion for the good of Malaysia.
the people of china have proven what was always there , thier industriousness ... as they become more developed they will realize there is more than just money !!!
Nothing can stop this march towards becoming a great nation again. The Chinese people will not allow it. Chinese people who are mindlessly following western democracy must know that China must develop her own path to success in economic, political and military wellness .
Clad to see you China made it. May our true creator bless and protect you, keep striving to doing good deeds and may all your intentions be pure to helping yourself and the human race.
The first time I see a positive review of China on YouTube, as a Chinese, I'm a bit moved.I discover a secret: there were also some objective Western media
China has grown. Its growth is blown up by interested parties for many different reasons. For corporate politicians in both Us parties, the making of China as a foe is good business. The US military budget remains the biggest steal of big business in the US. These are the millionaires and billionaires that will have their children exempted from fighting if we ever go to war. For these armchair patriots pushing for war and the stealing of resources from vulnerable countries is a great business. It is not surprising that the US already has special forces training soldiers in Taiwan. It is not an accident that Australia, Great Brittain, and The US have agreed to build for Australia a nuclear submarine fleet to patrol the China Coast.
The US has threatened to invade China since the US was defeated by THE CHINESE in 1953. These threats have worked and prevented the unification of Taiwan with The Chinese mainland. Yet The Unification of Taiwan remains a major Chinese goal. The Chinese leadership has invented a political structure to make it easier for Taiwan to unify. Taiwan has refused unification under any structure. The Taiwan population is undecided about unification, except that the youth tend to want independence and the older population wants unification.
The US seems to doubt China´s resolve. The US provokes China more and more each day. China continues to build anti-ballistic missiles targeting Taiwan. When China reaches a point of no return these missiles will reduce Taiwan to Rubble. The US may retaliate by bringing its aircraft carriers to bear on the mainland coast. Many of these aircraft carriers will be sunk. By this time the world community may convince the parties that The West can not win. China will take all of the islands claimed by Taiwan as well as Taiwan may become a UN protectorate that allows for US and Chinese influence. For The US this will become another expenditure that will ensure its decline. For China, the Chinese People have taken one more step towards unification. For Taiwan, and the rubble that it would have become, it will be a period of regret for allowing the US and their allies to bring destruction to its shores.
No matter what ideology a society may elect to practice as long as the leadership can provide the necessary opportunities for its people to progress economically. If you are trapped at the bottom of the economic pile with no opportunities to change or progress, all the liberty preached is useless. Words cannot provide one with shelter or fill your stomach. Just ask George Lloyd! Why can't the world leave it to the Chinese people to decide the kind of leadership they want? If at all, if it is so bad, the 1.4 Billion would demand for a change. Ask any average citizen the world over, if their economic future is forever stagnant, would they be able enjoy the kind of prosperity they can expect? At the end of the day, the current privileged and so-called educated of the West has only one agenda: to preserve the status quo through propaganda. The sad thing if many Western educated non-Whites seem to buy this idea wholeheartedly!
Asia should form a "Asian union";
It will only happen when big countries like china japan India south Korea UAE Russia unite themselves before it get too late .

When you go under for so long without food, you know what it means to be a poor country. But at the same time, you were free from foreigners in the country. The bounce back will be in the sky and it came later and it was so high that the world is now surprised to find a China that has become strong and powerful and can match any nation on earth.
Today the rich world look with envy and jealousy as China becomes rich beyond the imagination and is on the road to become a first world country in 20 years.
In a way, Singapore has contributed to this rise of China. It became an example of a country that had no resources but had brains together with hard work and dedication to succeed.
Well done China. You made whole Asia proud. Please do not bully your smaller neighbours. Also save small nation like Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh from evil India.
This is not about western democracy versus socialism with chinese characteristics. This is about which system that recognizes past mistakes, makes changes to their governance, and eliminating corruption. If you study Chinese history, Chinese dynasties have fallen because the Chinese government did not make the necessary changes and did not eliminate corruption. In other words, China has 5,000 years of civilized history to guide their system. USA corrected the American Civil War by eliminating slavery but what did the USA do to correct the Jan 6 insurrection? Hardly anything!
As a Chinese who has a good job and earns $2500 a month, I'm grateful for my country. And I'm proud to be a Chinese, whose nation is rising peacefully, unlike the west, the fortune of which is accumulated by colonizing
Say what you will about Mao, he deserves to be remembered for uniting China. The colonials are trying its hardest to cause internal discord with HK, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Taiwan. A united China is hard to beat.
Lee Kwan Yew did open Deng Shaoping’s eye to the outside world but it is the Confucius influence and the people that account for the dramatic rise of China and even East Asian countries.
No wonder Japan is so worried with China rise, they have did such atrocities during their occupancy in Manchuria. What they need is reconciliations between neighbors
I used to cringe when I saw that "made in china" label on some of the products I bought, but gradually, with time, chinese wares ķept becoming better. I would not say they are on par with the rest of the world yet, but they are definetely getting there at a pretty determined pace!
I don't want to see China to rise to abuse others but to help others to be happy. Not to show muscles but to show peace and harmony with all of others besides itself. Respect and tolerance towards all. I want China to care to all or beat it. Leave the world if they don't to help us and understand us and what we want and believe in.
After watching this well done video I now have more respect for the Chinese leader than ever B4 he is in my little opinion only second to President Putin in greatness both those great Leaders put the welfare n well been of their countries n people above all else what very leader should do
When the economy is $1T it is comparatively easier to achieve 10% growth annually but if the economy is $14T, a 6.2% growth is indeed impressive. It is like generating the size of the Australia's economy. How many countries can achieve such a feat, CNA? Hence, it is erroneous to say that China's 6.2% growth is the slowest since 2009. Do it in the right perspective, not distorting the facts.
So many haters in the comments oh my God... Get a life, China's on a journey to become number one, and that's that. It's been under stagnation for over 550 years, and just a couple of decades ago, it finally woke up. I can't understand how so many people call this video a propaganda when they OPENLY criticize Mao for murdering 2 million people in the famine (although some sources say he killed 40 million in total), and speak about how stuff actually happened. Maybe take a look at your own country, and then comment
America made all their sales people rich, when they exported all their skilled jobs to the far east. America will never recover from this catastrophe. Skilled Jobs and Skills are gone out from America. This will never be replaced.
they are investing heavily in research and development and most of the graduates come from best of universities both at their schools and around the world. their schools have gone nova in investment as they are attracting lot of international students.
the research and development fund will overtake america by 2025. 1 trillion is in play here.
we are already seeing in 5g. The contracts with the whole world is slated at trillion dollars and huawei is at the forefront of it. this century belongs to china. America with its biased and lopsided policies is shooting itself in the foot. the market is kept up on the back of 23 tril debt.
china also has 10 tril debt but 41 tril bank deposits( hk has 2 and macau has .5 trl---excluded).
american companies do lot of business in china and will continue to rise. once other countries wants the cake and eat it too, american companies will not have this good time. europe, south america, south east asia and the subcontinent and even russia are crazy to do business with china.
6% growth is ridiculous. that means some are still growing at 10% and some below 6%. any place growing above 10% is huge.
they are manufacturing their own civil planes( which is a cool another tril market) with chinese passenger travel poised to double( close to 3 bil in 3 to 4 years). the numbers are simply mind-numbing!
american population is getting old. they have to attract the best and keep them but the myopic polices means they are moving to canada, australia and europe these days.
Americans are completely ignormuses and still think that they are the only game in town.
most of them even dont know world map!
china will stop depending on exports once it touches 3 tril. it will go internal with huge subcontinent, south east asia, africa, europe and even south america to cater to(6 bil population).
but they love sanfrancisco more than any city in the world. so they will invest in real estate in cali. california--sanfrancisco-oakladn is home away from home for the chinese.
the latest movie--ip man 4 is a testimony to that.
now they have all the money in the world to make hollywood kind of movies. the budget have surpassed 100 mil lately.
my 2 cents.
Many of the chinese citizens during the great famine went to go join the military, because food in the military was not limited. It was because of one person, ONE PERSON, from the Chinese military went home and walked more than 2000 miles to his home from Beijing. He discovered all his family starved to death, and as such, walked back to Beijing to tell his authorities. He saved millions of lives.
China should take back what belonged to them and then equally distribute the wealth amongst all Chinese in Hong Kong, Singapore, and every land that used to belong to China.
For young children :- Asian royalties are combined as The Imperial Houses of the Imperial Households .
North Asian Royalties are called The Imperial Household of Japan , East Asian Royalties are called The Imperial Household of the People Republic of China , West Asian royalties are called The Imperial Houses ,
Southwest Asia , South Central Asia , Southeast Asia are combined as The United Nations Security . CMC .
we are not afraid of challenges , it will be always coming during our journey, we face it , overcome it, we saw emperors like Roma, Macedonia, Osman, Britsh, Mongolia ... came and gone, we will see the US gone as well!!
Salute to Honerable President Xi and Honerable party members of People's Republic of China on remarkable achievement in 70 years.
Elevating 700 millions out of Poverty is
Indeed a living proof of this Century that strength of a nation is it's citizens .
Western Democracy elevates only 1% elites which are subservient of Royal Imperial. China vision and Ideology is prosperity for all accross it's citizens .
We wish well to China and admire it's efforts to eredicate poverty from its continent and eventually from the world.
China has well and truly caught up and should be commended for what it has achieved in such a short period of time. I would prefer it was not so aggressive on it's path glory....
China is the first great Asian power since Japan in WWII that isn't under the influence of the United States or a Western power. Japan, HK, Taiwan, South Korea, and even Singapore all have friendly US relations if not formal military occupations by the US. China makes America very uncomfortable since it's used to being the sole superpower in Asia.
This is not rise but welcome back of China to edge and after China India is coming very fastly. Both these giants Asian are set to take back their global position back in history.
It’s consistency and united reliance to true leadership. On practice pragmatic approach; I like Deng Ziaoping motto; “ it doesn’t matter if the cat is black or white as long as it catches the mice “
I was critical on china and still am, mainly because of their values. But I can't help but look at how they did it and I respect how they did it, building an economy with a 7 year span not a lot of countries can make that possible.
I do not understand what China intents to achieve with its newfound status in the world, as a Kenyan and an African I am worried that this may be the second colonization of the world, esp African countries. That said, I have always been a big fan of China's achievement on the world stage. I hope that our African leaders learn from them and not lead us into the abyss of Neo-Colonialism again.
China is a role model to the rest of the world they suffered but unlike other countries they learned their lesson and went forward ofcourse several factors helped them along the way such as communism etc but they grew making sure they dont fall down from their position,
The Great Leap Forward, the massive price that had to be paid, a Cultural Revolution, to reach a promise land of global dominance and a future to look forward to.
Both China and India became Republic at the same time but China is 8x more developed than India in every single category. Democracy is major reason for India's downfall as poor Indians misused the powerful gift to elect the corrupted and unworthy leaders. If someone like Subash Chandra Bose had became the dictator of India then i am sure India would be among the level of China, but communist Gandhi wouldnt be happy.
India also failed to take advantage of 70's and 80's which are the crucial years for the rise in economy of poor countries which saw 20x times growth rate in China, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, malaysia.
My parents is almost 70 years old countryside Chinese, whey they were young, they suffered so much from poverty, if someone have chance to move abroad, I think they will do it. But now the things is different. I was born in 1985, I really feel life changing speed just like rocket , and younger generation is more and more confidence in our culture and country, I believe most Chinese just like me who is really love our country and never want to migrate to any other place.
Western Taiwan (formerly china) should be contributing more to their benefactors in Taiwan.
I am from mainland W.Taiwan & we are a good people!
VPN rocks!!!!
Not sure where they got the number of deaths during the cultural revolution, my mom and dad were around 20s at the time, born to families of abject poverties, survived vell and my dad finished high school education which can be equivalent to college education now.
It's true we can't bring our money to heaven but we certainly need it while we're still in this world, no money & we'll always be under those who have it; communist China didn't change this reality. Deng Xiaoping's quote : "Poverty is not communism, it's glorious to be rich" !!!
Good topic but production could be improved. Parts are so soft I have to raise the volume much higher. Then it becomes too loud and I have to turn it back down. Repeat over and over. Annoying.
"Asian Giant"?? That's it!? That's the best you can describe China!?!? What a lame title!? It should be phrased as "The Giant Comes Home" or "The Dragon Has Returned". China is simply returning to where it once was, after a brief, 150 years of hiatus.
I would have admire and respect China's rise if it didnt step on other's foot.. I mean, they have teritorial spat from almost all its neighbor - from Japan to Southeast Asian countries to India..
Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew (an amazing leader) of Singapore was the adviser to Deng Xiaoping and Xi Jing Ping. Many people from China were sent to Singapore to learn.
Like the leader of any teams, The super power not only rules the world and draws benefits from the world, but also needs to export culture, order, economic system, safe and happy life to the world. Otherwise, this power will rise rapidly and decline rapidly like the Mongol Empire.
China joined the IMF and World Bank in the late 1970s under Deng Xiaoping and opened Special Economic Zones to attract foreign investment. Farming was privatized and agricultural output soared. The new economic reforms led to calls for political freedoms and, in 1989, a million student protestors gathered in Tiananmen Square. Deng declared martial law and sent in the tanks. Despite China’s economic reforms, the Communist elite wasn’t going anywhere. With the economy booming, there was no popular revolt. The rest of the Communist world collapsed and globalization took off. The world’s industries migrated to China and 200 million people moved to the cities providing a vast pool of sweatshop labour. Unregulated factories poisoned major rivers, unregulated agribusiness drained rivers dry, logging ran wild and powerplants polluted the air with smog. Chinese industry flooded the West with cheap consumer goods and China’s east coast cities boomed.
America is a young subcontinental empire built on debt and driven by consumer spending. China is an ancient subcontinental empire built on industry and driven by investment with much of GDP ploughed into new infrastructure. In 2011, for example, the state built 11,000 km of motorways bringing its network to 85,000 (10,000 more than the US). Xi Jinping rose to power in 2012 and, just like his close ally Vladimir Putin, is a strong nationalist leader who is not afraid to confront the West. Xi has further concentrated power into his own hands and turned the state’s vast resources towards developing high tech industry, building up the military and increasing China’s presence in space. With the rise of modern China and the resurgence of Russia under Putin, the world's nuclear priesthoods are now engaged in a Second Cold War of nuclear brinkmanship and proxy conflicts...

Im a 49-yrs old Chinese, and I lived through the 'Absolute Poverty' period . In late 70's, during the winter, our family had nothing to eat but some rice and pickle--just like the guy in the video said. I think the title of this video is misleading. We came out poverty, but our status is purely based on our size. Our per-capita is still at the lower-middle. We need to stay low please.
From the insight of the long history of China, China has the potential to come back the original position. The Chinese people are comprehensive, love peace, etc.. We can make the world more better!
The narrator pronounces the Chinese names in accurately. When G7 countries are gathering up to counter China these days, it is specially interesting watching this video. I'm Chinese and I know a lot of people don't like China. But you're welcome to visit China after the pandemic.
Lots of discussions and debates about China recently. China would have faults, corruption, setbacks, enemies , etc but China did survive. Could China surprised everyone given another 5 years? Dragon or worm ? One party many policies vs many parties one policy
I agree with professor Wang Gungwu. CHINA 🇨🇳 should be celebrated and embraced, not rivalled… I doubt this sentiment resonates. Still, if their competition adopted “win-win”, the world might be a very different place… with a very different inflation story just now…! 🇨🇳🇬🇧️🇺🇸
After the collapse of the Japanese empire, the communization of China and the division of Korea occurred, and the power balance of Asia was disturbed at once.
In particular, Japan had taken a policy of excluding communism since before the war, and although it had beaten the Chinese Communist Party thoroughly, it became a form that allowed China to communize at the same time as the defeat.
Right now, the harmful effects are spreading to the world, and it is dyed with dangerous ideas.
Was the abandonment of the Japanese army after the war correct? If Japan had not abandoned its army, Korea would have been able to send reinforcements to the Kuomintang against China without division.
The fact is China was number 1 in GDP before western colonialism invaded China. And China didn't needed to colonize or take from other countries for its return to being a top economic power. China actually was quite technological advance in the past. So to assume you can suppress China from progress is simply not going to work. The growth at this break neck pace is even more amazing despite constant US interference and suppression, ban from most if not all advance technology.
In every country politician makes mistakes and accepts responsibilty for the people suffering due to their policies. New leadership must learn the mistake-error and come forward to correct and make it better for the people's properity, peace and further development of the country.
Hitlerowskie Niemcy też rozwijały się świetnie i miały pomysł urządzenia świata na swoją modłę , teraz KPCh chcę urządzić świat na swoją modłę. To trzeba zatrzymać.
And the saying of the cats is an old Chinese proverb, he was only using it to make a point. Deng was a good and committed communist. He argued that there's economic planning in capitalism and that markets are not inherently capitalist, he is correct, there were markets before capitalism existed. Instead both planning and markets are economic tools to be used to develop nations and achieve goals, the goals of the CPC remain the same, a free and strong scientific socialist China and reaching communism in the long run.
Good watch. I wonder if there is a Chinese version available? Or perhaps Chinese subtitles over the English speaking/reading parts. Mum no English, Canto + Mando = No problem.
Most people look at China only focused the miracle 35years. Few realized that it was first 35 years built the solid foundation. In those years, Chinese were poor by any means. Yet they save any penny they could to invest in the future. For almost TWO generations, people live with basis standard. Yet built largest industrial complex only second to US and Soviet Russia.
Deng took over the role to guide the country don’t know where to go. He ingeniously designed the open up to the world and carefully drew the blue print for next 50 years. In ten years China became #1 of most basic industrial section. Then with 500 million educated labors and 100million engineers, China started the leap over at neck breaking speed.
Half of China's total economic output is foreign capital income and labor income. A large part of the remaining half of the total output value is the real estate bubble. This is why Premier Li Keqiang said that the monthly income per capita of 600 million people is less than RMB 1,000. China has bought some patented technologies, and almost all core technologies in various industries are in the hands of foreigners.
Chinese model is unexportable and harder to imitate such as the control and suppression of coronavirus pandemic and the construction of temporary hospitals within days. Democracy had been beautifully spelled by the Greek scholar : But not easy to understand of the concept and harder to learn because of the loop hole and string attached.
China made mistakes, but also learned from those mistakes that made the China of today. The gateway for the most modern civilization toward the year 3024.
*DON'T FORGET & Don't Get Her Wrong [ Frankly (no bias) ] , China is not intended suddenly rises, but truly speeding revival to washout the past 150 years humiliations!!!*
China and India were the leading economies in the past they both dominate the economy for 1000 of years India was ahead then slowly China became ahead,China was also the student of India for the past 1000 years before, that’s how Buddism spread and kungfu by indian monk Bodima
China adopted similar trading systems to that of southeast Asia countries and if China begins to have a GDP per Capita similar to Japan or Europe no country can surpass china
Economists said that by 2035, HALF of the world's GDP will be traded out of the South China Sea. Let that sink in a little. HALF of the world's economy will be traded out of the South China Sea.
Well Mao didn't create a problem to economy economic growth in China was still growing during Mao's time Deng just made it happen faster by allowing a lot of corruption and growing the corruption and you can open up and grow without to much capitalism or no capitalism.
China is not Asia it is Oriental. Asia is Egypt, Arabs, Israel, Persia, India. Asia was a separate civilization, a separate race which at the beginning had nothing to do with the Europeans, Africans, Orientals.
Pride comes before a fall. Mr ding Don's statement is from the same mind set as Hitler in his speech, before he ate it. Anti-godliness always climbs the latter out of HELL only to fall back in.

One thing that isn't mentioned it that China is not a completely free market economy. Key economic sectors such as banks and others are still entirely state own, and the biggest companies in China are state owned. They let smaller businesses run themselves to not waste effort on them and focus on the most important economic players
If a company wants to borrow to invest in growth, since the bank is owned by the state, it has to abide by the state's term. So the banks give the states an indirect but powerful control over all larger businesses

The presenter needs to really understand modern Chinese history a bit more from 1911, the writers or editors Of this series also need more Chinese history lessons.
I forgot Singapore practices Communism as well, the helm will always be passed on to the family. Singapore's hidden widespread racism are pushing their minority aside, while hiding illegally imported sand from Bangladesh with poor children, men and women slaving away at the river bank collecting sands for sale to the mayor which will be shipped into Singapore discreetly. This activity had also caused the river banks of Bangladesh to be so weakened and easily getting land slide when it rains. Why is Singaporean silencing journalist who just wanted to ask about the sand that's just being put a side in a highly guarded field?
Chinese, there is a ethnic group called Han nationality, there is a ethnic group called Hakka people, there are 80 million Hakka people in the world, where there is water, there are Chinese Hakka people, overseas Chinese and overseas Chinese.
I Thanks you Gentleman for giving a full Analysis of Industrialised China of TODAY. I WONDER, ANY OF YOU KNOW THE TRUTH OF BUILDING SHEN ZHEN(sorry for wrong spelling). I would like to highlight to all of you, IT WAS INITIATED BY OUR OWN TOP ECONOMIST GENIUS, DR GOH KENG SWEE. THIS INDUSTRIAL PARK IS EXACTLY LIKE OUR JURONG INDUSTRIAL PARK. HE ALSO GUIDED TENG, SINGAPORE CONCEPT, 5 + 5 YEARS OF TAX FREE PROMOTION OF THIS INDUSTRIAL PARK. AFTER A FEW YEARS OF OPENING UP OF THIS INDUSTRIAL PARK, TENG WENT SEE FOR HIMSELF, IT WAS SO BULLISH, HE IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK TO SHANGHAI & PEKING TO CALL FOR OPEN UP OF THESE TWO STATES. IT IS DR GOH'S CONTRIBUTIONS THAT ACTUALLY BROUGHT UP CHINA. HOW MUCH OF HIS ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE WAS PASS TO TENG IS STILL A SECRET. PLEASE TO NOT DEPRIVED THE TRUE CONTRIBUTER, THE HONOUR.
I remember 94 when We mailed over boot disks to hong kong(Lucy at QDI),just to spin up the windows 95 os to be able to do a clean install instead of microsoft, who was over installing on windows 3.11 in america and having problems. You guys left america in bedrock with the flintstones...
To review the recent world situation and strategy at this time in March 2024, three points are worthy for further discussions.
(1) The Russia - Ukraine War
(2) Israel -Hamas
(3) The South China Sea
The USA is all involved. Originally, USA wants to contain China but losing sights of the negstive effect of the eastward
movement of NATO ;
The deep involvement the genocide acts of Israel damages the image of the dominant position as a world leader.
The lamb-duck of '4O%.' among the people in the island of Taiwan
has been surrounded by the Liberation Army of China .
Will the Washington group in power jump into the Taiwan related southern sea to rescue the puppy
of the 40% bysending troops, while the US military has deeply involved in the Black Sea and the Red Sea ?
The history about industrialization is the history about capital ackumulation. It has never been a pleasant period in history. The history about the "great" imperial "powers" "capital" ackumiliation" is. The monroe doctrin capital "ackumiliation" is still a fact in latin America. Stalins speech before the central committe in 1929 in witch he put in on the line that Sovjet had to be military strong in ten years or be whiped out was a speech about capital ackumulation. Dengs reforms was a politic for capital ackumilation. Study the history of capital ackumilation and tell me.
the average salary for graduates was 500$ in 2015, and yet still been 500$ for now in Beijing.
the Only risen thing is military expenditure due to the increase of GDP which was pulled up by real estate even though people don't have money to purchase that. at the same time, the government claim they have no money for pension fund
My personal view: I find this segment of news quite bias. Many negative but facts were omitted. I switch off this halfway through watching as I find it propagandistic
Dong Xiaoping was result of a given condition as we all are. so the success of an entire nation does not belong to one person, but belongs to all.
It is exactly like creation of Jesus or Mohammad. all these people are regardless how clever, we all are product of social condition. praise all and give all the respect that they all deserve for uplifting China to this point. Do not create a god From one person sins god does not exist.
The situation creates us and we change the situation, and new situation advances by creating new condition. that is dialectic.
the new comes and advances to the top until the new new comes and pushes the old away, that is how everything advances, that is how nature advances. that is materialist dialectic. Marks and Engels explained this extremely well.
The fact that today,we can openly discuss this matter and communicate. it is very positive.
What was is now over we are in a Nrw light, despite the west’s feelings, is this video for wide public acceptance or for the subject of the presentation.
sit with them at the table on one hand buying and sharing a meal and on the other hand sit talk with them providing a meal for them! I think that would be prosperous enjoying that! clear the air in honesty! on the same page friends?
why china is better than countries? if an area need airport then tomorrow start construction already unlike other countries that need to debate for so long then so many court battles and appeal then motion for consideration it will take at least 10 years before a project can be implimented
In matters of the trade wars, China got a great deal and that deal was based on the country being very poor. The
Chinese can no longer be seen as poor and so the deal with the United States must change. How ever the deal
changes, China will still have a good commercial relationship with the United States. They will still make good
money.
As long as communish ideology does not affect/contradict their external political interest to ASIAN-Group and others will be a peacefull nations ...military might is for defence only not for offensive exclusive or personal interest...we leave in our old world for peace ...not creating war to our neigbors country...progress of any country will never last if they intentionaly apply un-acceptable external military command.....definitely other nations will be or already objected and isolated...economy-export/import will be much more affected...
you would like to overpower then you will reap overpower! you do not wrestle against flesh and blood!!! and it looks like it's coming for you!!! be meek and GENROUS to the things of God!!!
i hope china focus on economic transformation instead of military and become biggest economy and centre of the world,i also hope china have good relation with india.
If the voice doing the telling is mainstream, it's probably NOT telling the true story of the CCP China. I watch laowhy86 for the best take on CCP China
It is interesting to watch and once again able to reveal what has had happened over the last 2-years since this video report published on / about China. Since, the Covid Pandemic, oneself can see and witness the decline of China, and the increasingly mistrust about China, for the first time in over 2-decades. The question now... Is China on the decline ?
HUNGEE M A H A U ?? ? Is the PRC still a "work in progress"-- or has it finally ARRUVED? (All they must to is prove to humanity that there's NO GOD OF HEAVEN looking down from above--- and punishing mankind for the "sins of their fathers" (Deuteronomy 24:16 + Exekiel 18:23,29*). Amen.

Cultural revolution in Mao time reduced the population in China from 400 millions in 1949 to 250 millions in 1989 excluding the Tiananmen Square massacre of millions. The population of China is now suffering from starvation and this prolonged suffering will cause China to be uninhabited very soon. Just my opinion learned from BBC for 50 years.
China is rising and the danger of communism is arising at the same time in and outside China. This pandemic is one disaster originated in China which killed millions.
The rise of China was made possible by the U.S. and Western Europe pragmatic capitalism, which thought in term of short term profits at the expense of long term strategic and national security interests. China is now the main threat to U.S. and Western Europe security. China threatens its neighbors, claiming the South and East China Sea are their waters, and stated openly to take Taiwan in the next decade, even by force if it's necessary. This makes China the main power to be reckon with in the next decades, if not century. Personally, I think that a war with China is unavoidable, and the risk of starting as a conventional war and ending up nuclear, is very high.
Practically, it's not possible to have a conventional war with China because of the sheer number of Chinese soldiers give no other option to the U.S. and Western Europe, but to nuke China. And those tunnels that the Chinese built to take shelter during a nuclear war, might not save their lives, but prolong their lives a few more weeks...
China can still be a global power even if they allow independence to Xinjiang, Tibet , inner Mongolia, Manchuria, hong Kong and Taiwan, if that happened everyone will love China and respect them as a real world leader of power, democracy , economy and diplomacy.. Thats my dream a more kind China.
ex xi peng be prident china he opionion & I ( mo soid)got inevstments frm outside country .. some products are exported and some used at china..likes , rusia, erope, japan, england , brizal , aregentina & etcs...china citisentship got their works & salary every months ..

I am from India and we don't have that good relations with China, but I still support China because I like it's system. We both countries were looted yet China emerged as a supreme power but India is... growing but not at enough rate to satisfy the huge population. The media is saying bad things about leftists but if leftism is truly bad then how did China emerge as a powerful country?
Another reason for supporting China is because now we only have one nation as superpower and it's looting from developing countries. I hope if it gets a competition it will try to gather as much allies as possible and help them to defeat China. In that process instead of usually destroying others' countries for loot both may benefit the developing nations so as to form powerful alliances
How come people never ask how China was able to get out of poverty? Where did all the technologies come from? If the western countries didn't buy the products, where Chinese goods would go? Was the CCP use to condemn the wealthy people to death and take their properties?
the amoun tof wu maos in this comment section is actually sickening lol china wouldnt be anywhere near where it is now had it not been for the US loool
“Remember AmeriKKKa being #2 isn’t so bad when you realize that the Chinese 🇨🇳Silk Road (2050) completion will never allow AmeriKKKa to be #1 again!” ️️️️
I hope the whole world will have freedom of speech and have the right to acquire basic needs to survive Such as sustainable and clean environment. Btw when will china respect the product patents or no piracy on trademarks?
