With todays weapons, the flight deck of any carrier is a prime & inviting target. Disable the flight deck & you have taken away the carriers strike power. This is why the carriers have been the first to flee when faced with maritime hostilities. To remove the Pride of the USN would have a crippling effect on both the firepower remaining, as well as morale support of the nation as a whole. The US Carriers concept have been sold to the populations as the be-end-all of military firepower, when in reality they only hold that position when the enemy cannot fire back. A bit like the backyard bully really. They will always be the first to flee at the first sign of enemy action.
