Read the AOW last summer. The quote that always sticks with me is "Let you plans be as dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt."
52
Love Sun Tzu and his book on the Art of War
51
Happy to listen to my favorite narrator again, and really looking forward to this later tonight! Thank you guys for all of your continued great work!
26
Keep up the good work guys! Your documentaries are out of this world! "If your enemy is of mercurial temper. Seek to irritate him" .
38
Congratulations on your very good pronunciation of Chinese, names and places. It’s very refreshing. I’ve suffered through so many butcherings of it I’ve lost count.

“Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the comment sections fate.” - Sun Tzu

孫子はart of warではなく、management of warです。 孫子は戦争を、国家が無視することのできないリスクと定義した。 そして、そのリスクをどのように減少させるかを説いている。 故に孫子の目指す究極の目標は、戦争を行わずに目標を達成することです

Always nice to listen to my favorite narrator/

General Cao Cao and Lao Tzu are other Geniuses.

Another underrated Chinese war Philospher was Mozi (墨翟) who specialised in defensive warfare and built his own weapons
19
"I never said that shit"- Sun Tzu

"When you are about to lose the war, impress your supporters with a victory plan." - Sun Tzu

Man you are one heck of a historical figure if your influence stay strong while people debate about your existence.
10
Sun Zi Bing Fa is a very extraordinary ancient Chinese book that tells us how to win a battle more easily even though we are in trouble. There's another important thing that Sun Zi Bing Fa also provides us with useful advice on facing and dealing with difficulties at work.
6
Macivelli's The Prince and Sun Tzu's The Art of War should be required reading for anyone in a leadership role.
22
The Art of Wart, Sun Tzu, the philosophy provides a lot of teaching or wisdom: If you know the enemy and yourself, you should not fear the outcome of hundreds battles. Prudence with creativity and firmness with patience. The wise man always wins because he does not compete. The Art of Wart reaches to win without fighting, the importance of knowing yourself, to have clarity where you have your feet, or clarity of the situation, problems etc. the importance of creativity. The most important is to know yourself.

"If you must retreat in the face of the enemy, make sure you leave all your Black Hawk helicopters for them" - Definitely not Sun Tzu

I forgot to add that I congratulate the makers of this video for their investigative work. Great job, folks. joeinbuenosaires 😎
Guerra nunca será arte.... E só quem nunca a sentiu de perto, lhe chama isso.

Fascinating! Can you profile Empress Wu Zetian?
4
Okay People’s Profiles yes I am very interested in the history of Sun Tzu but now I really think it’s time you do a documentary on Walt Disney, Balto or Gunnar Kaasen or something else even more unexpected please? I think you’re an amazing historian and I enjoy all of your videos. It’s just that in this time of serious politics people need to STOP talking about politics and look to more important things like history.

Thanks. Would be cool to see Kangxi video.

Listening from Mackinac Island Michigan
Sun Tzu really knew human nature
Still relevant.

While there may be debate as to whether Sun Tzu actually existed, his principles of war laid out in The Art of War are the fundamentals for warfare. While technology & weaponry may advance, sometimes by leaps & bounds, the basic tenets of conducting warfare do not change. The means may change, but the ends do not, and will not, change. The question of Sun Tzu's existence should not detract from the overall value of The Art of War. joeinbuenosaires 😎

My fav person....

For those saying that sun tzu's srt of war is common sense, russia campaign in ukraine, especially in the first few months, did the exact opposite of what the art of war advised.
11
He was a head of its time. his mind defeated US forces in Vietnam.
Every video: "The man known to history as..."

The art of fooling your enemy to think you are something that you're not. Chinese have perfected this

So many pinyin in this video! It gives foreigners a similar experience to Chinese people encountering numerous unfamiliar names in world history.
2
“When faced with retreat leave your military equipment worth billions of dollars for the insurgents.”- Sun Tzu probably

The Producers: I only know that I know

They force me to make you unhappy
1
It does appear that whomever this man was, he re-shaped Western concepts of war conduct.
Can’t imagine Suntzu getting infuriated
Interesting video but according to the narrator it’s all speculation. There’s really no evidence sun tzu was real or just a fictional character created to summarize military strategy
6
So this is historical context, but what of the military context. Well, Ho Chi Min, communist leader of North Vietnam followed The Art Of War down to the letter and it worked out extraordinarily well for him, defeating American forces who had superior weaponry. Im interested in the actual treatise.
1
One of the most famous ancient tactician who never actually involved in any battle/war. In other words, a world famous table top general who is studied by so many. He was indeed a brilliant tactician who achieved his fame not fighting a single war/battle. If that is not an art of war, what is?

Thank you for a very well-informed documentary. However, it would have been nice if the narrator spoke some Chinese and had a more accurate pronunciation of the characters and locations.

Why don't you make a video about comparison/application of Sun Tzu strategy at work against the American financial hegemony without firing a single bullet today!?

Still tried to defeat Vietnam.
It seems Napoleon forgot some of the teachings (3 X) of "The art of war" at Waterloo. May be he had the flu on that day.
2
I rather rely on the art of war exercised by Ghengiz Khan, Kubilai Khan, Subutai, Alexander the Great, Timur Lenk, Alpaslan Khan, Atila Khan, Seljuq Khan, Osman Pasha and others who kicked ass around the known world and founded empires
Sun tzu is still required reading today because.... que inkspots... War. War never changes.
1
"Sun Tzu's Art of War does not work when you have a gun pointed to your head". -Moon Tzu
7
The Art of War is a nice book for the popular reader. As a true guide for warfare it is little use, IMO. It does NOT address logistics -- which is the heart of warfare. Also, modern war is dictated by war material production. Sun Tzu says nothing about this.

Lost to Vietnamese all the way. Stop this non sense.
Good voice, horrible butchering of names. BCE is correct term, I am not interested in your god.
People who don't know Chinese and classical Chinese can't understand this book at all. It doesn't mean this when it is translated into English. Only by knowing Chinese and Confucian literature can you understand oriental literature.
