DEBATE: Will China or the USA COLLAPSE first? [MUST WATCH] The Jay Martin Show 196K subscribers Subscribe 4.2K Share Download 97,652 views Sep 15, 2024 Today on the Jay Martin Show, Jay is joined by renowned economist and professor - Richard Wolff. Professor Wolff is the founder of Democracy at Work, host of Economic Update and teaches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In this interview we dive into the dynamics of U.S.-China competitiveness and explore the probable outcomes in the shifting global landscape. We compare the governance models of the three dominant powers over the past century: the Soviet Union's socialist system, the U.S.'s capitalist structure, and China's unique socialist-capitalist hybrid. A key focus is how China operates much like a corporation, with centralized vision and policy set by its leadership, while different levels of autonomy function similarly to executives, managers, and employees in a business. While they want the world to prosper through cooperation, the U.S confronts, with economic and military wars. Imagine the increased prosperity of the worlds two greatest economies working together to also benefit many other countries. Thanks Richard and Jay for the incredible interview. 107 Reply 7 replies @asetiawan73 2 days ago As an indonesian 1st time visited USA in 1989 still in high school and think wow a great and advanced country, on the flight back home stop over in Hk and cross to china and see it as a poor country. The first time I visited Mainland China was in 1988 and have done so every year since, except for during the pandemic. I have seen the miracle and it never ceases to amaze me. It amuses me to read the things prople say about China who have never been there. Professor Wolf’s analysis is spot on and one of the best I have ever heard. 329 Reply 17 replies @_Wai_Wai_ 2 days ago China in the early to mid 1800s was a large populated empire with around 400 million people and an economy around 25% of global gdp. Chinese silk, tea and porcelain were luxury goods that Europeans all wanted. European trade with China was pretty much a one way street, until the British managed to smuggle opium into China. If not for the devastating Taiping rebellion China would have been strong enough to resist Western invasions. 61 Reply 3 replies @ambconstrucao3770 2 days ago The Chinese are disciplined, hardworking, goal driven people. 280 Reply 16 replies @KC-lc8dx 2 days ago I can't even believe that you're even questioning this, just spent a week in California, note I lived there for years, filthy airports and public services, clearly in decline 209 Reply 14 replies @AnnieT369 2 days ago They are lunatics in Washington. 75 Reply 5 replies @pakjai5532 2 days ago Regrettably, the United States might be the first to face collapse. As an immigrant nation, it deals with social, racial, and religious challenges akin to those in Europe. The country also struggles with homelessness, drug abuse, and overwhelming national debt. Once vital, the manufacturing sector has diminished, resulting in lost competitiveness and declining sales. Successive governments have failed to address these issues, exacerbating the decline with nonsensical isolationist policies. 118 Reply 12 replies @theo7326 2 days ago The Chinese system is the best in the world for the everage people because they raised 840 million people out of poverty in 40 years that is an achievement never seen in the world. 110 Reply 7 replies @lc1668 2 days ago The difference between the two countries, is China gets the best persons as their leaders, USA does the opposite. 86 Reply 5 replies @dstnrunner 2 days ago I have traveled across China from east to west, north to south. Even in small towns in the far west or the north, there is a super modern bus/train station served by high speed train. The average Chinese urban resident who 30 years ago could barely afford a refrigerator, now travels to Paris and shops at Louis Vuitton. 214 Reply 59 replies @waichui2988 2 days ago To those who fantasize that China will collapse: I recommend that you get a different fantasy, a more pleasant fantasy. How about fantasizing yourself winning the lottery twenty times in a row? 189 Reply 25 replies @parttimethinker7611 2 days ago (edited) Most third world countries have 100% tariffs on imported cars for decades The tariffs never improved their manufacturing capabilities. Is America becoming a third world country? 56 Reply 3 replies @LL-rm8xt 2 days ago (edited) Jay, correction, century of humiliation was NOT caused by civil war in China, the civil war was a result of the century of humiliation. Century of humiliation was caused by the UK, France, Japan, US, etc trying to carve up China, look up the opium wars. Not sure if you were being disingenuous or just misinformed 22 Reply 1 reply @eduxvaii 1 day ago Given the persisting global economic crisis, it's essential for individuals to focus on diversifying their income streams independent of governmental reliance. This involves exploring options such as stocks, gold, silver, and digital currencies. Despite the adversity in the economy, now is an opportune moment to contemplate these investment avenues. 207 Reply 5 replies @julians472 2 days ago Brilliant Show! Professor Wolff,Professor Sachs, and Professor Hudson are simply the best! 22 Reply @theo7326 2 days ago Richard Wolff is a exelent economist and very intelligent. 17 Reply @YCHTT 2 days ago This has nothing to do with China but on the part of US led West only. China can be substituted with another country and would have the same outcome. It is simply the outcome that an imperialist empire and its mafia gangs are going all their way to crash any possible rise of nations or a nation, in this case China, that have been successful with having alternatives to all form of its national developments (from economic, military, science, technologies etc.) without subservient to the imperialist system that has been imposed upon to the world. This main video should be focused on talking about why should US led West still being an imperialist empire and why it is constantly forcing every country to be subservient to it instead of being a responsible country and contribute to peace and human prosperity for all (and not the usual benevolence doublespeak bs). Anyone thinks otherwise are being so brainwash and indoctrinated about the core problem. Instead of trying to condemn the thieves, you are focusing on the victims. 23 Reply 2 replies @fatchiapk8706 2 days ago (edited) “What can carry you forward also can drag you down”-Chinese old saying is “Water can made a boat float also can made a boat sink…水能载舟 亦能覆舟”. 59 Reply 3 replies @birdpainter452 2 days ago One of the biggest factors not discussed to a larger degree is the cultural factor. Individuality is treasured in the US ( although fading fast) , in China, it’s the greater community. Because of that, there is a greater national unity in China to get things done. 25 Reply @AntiwarObserver 2 days ago (edited) In a nutshell, China is a socialist market economy, it's a mixed economy. The governmental structure facilitates centralized national planning and administration is decentralized at lower levels. Policy consultation comes through democratic processes at grass-roots level, bottom-up. China isn't anti-capitalists but capitalism is on a leash as the state doesn't allow capitalism to dictate the direction of the country. What you might find interesting the west learned a lot from the Chinese for centuries until the industrial revolution that spurred the west ahead, today the western companies that go to China are finding it difficult to compete with local companies, China has developed in many areas beyond what western companies can offer. 52 Reply 24 replies @dazedhavoc 2 days ago We can’t compete with the Chinese. 118 Reply 14 replies @Dikrad-bh5tm 2 days ago Hooray for my name sake professor Richard Wolff Far as I know he has not said one word wrong about America or China. In this chaotic world with great geopolitical tension, to NOT become the victim of fake news and propaganda, even from our long-trusted mainstream media unfortunately, it is ever more important to listen to guests like professor Wolff, who can give us the framework, context, and historical background to understand for ourselves what is really going on in the world. Thanks Jay!. Well done! 47 Reply @soothsayer2406 2 days ago Awesome content and guest 37 Reply @Time4Peace 1 day ago The collapse of either country is not something to be celebrated. Both countries are intensively connected to the rest of the world. We cannot have the 'us vs them' mindset. China is not the enemy. It has repeatedly said that it wants to a friend and collaborate with any country (including the US) to grow together, to deal with poverty and other existential threats like climate change, AI and nuclear weapons. No nation, including the US, would like to be encircled by 200 or more hostile military bases, have its coastlines patroled regularly, threatened with sea blockade of its trade routes in the seas off its coastlines by regular hostile navy exercises. Even more critical is seeing a part of its country being armed and encouraged to go independent. And then branded as aggressive, expansionist, and a threat to the world. The US, and the world, is stronger with China as a friend rather than treating it as the enemy. 5 Reply @BrandyHeng007 2 days ago God of Wealth vs Satan of Debts-Deaths. 159 countries support God of Wealth 59 Reply 6 replies @waterdragonclan9108 2 days ago Thank you Jay and Richard. Because Chinese and Russians are ok with going that far if it goes that way. We're an individualist society and it's gonna look like Walking Dead over here, but the collectivist societies will know how to rebuild because they've gone through the exercise of total destruction multiple times already. Wish we could just get along with everyone and be a great nation among nations instead of pursuing the "we own you so obey" policy. 74 Reply 25 replies @theo7326 2 days ago The professor lays it out and makes it look so easy but the chinese have the system and the discipline to make their plans happen and I admire that so much I have to go to China to see it with my own eyes. 13 Reply 2 replies @joethao2161 2 days ago Awesome show… Great guest Jay!!! Here in the South and East (and probably in certain parts of Europe), people are listening and appreciating his comments and views. Bottomline is the fact that the Western 'leadership' has become violently pathetic for that matter. What should have been a high level US national debate, has become a giant comedy show for the rest of the planet, with an associated sense of fear and hopelessness for the future. 4 Reply @bjung8858 1 day ago When the PRC first decided to change its economic approach, it was poor and didn't know how the Western System worked. China opened Special Economic Zones to test its plans while China prepared. The US sent some of its best businessmen to acquire benefits. But the Chinese sent its best business minded people to negotiate, and the Americans left empty handed or with ( to the Chinese view) a fair deal. Then the Chinese studied the HK, Singapore, Korean, Japanese approach and adopted this. This policy got China to where it is now. Where from here? BRICS. The World is sick and tired of the US and Western Imperialism. China's approach is benefitting Africa and the rest of the World. Later, the US and Europe will be contained and isolated. Europe will turn against the US as China did to the Soviet Union. Then, the US will implode like the Soviet Union from its own toxicity. 2 Reply @AliceBucura 2 days ago I came across your channel through this video- case studies are incredibly valuable, and I'm eager to see more in the future! They loved my orange shoes and dress, everyone else was in grey suits. Forty years later they have built a montroprulous. China has now collapsed under the weight of its debt, rather like the rest of the country’s. The west esp. US see it as a competion because China's economies is getting stronger and stronger. Chinese government (Communist) is much more efficient than democratic system as they gets things done almost immediately than going on debating forever in the end things don't get done at all becos of too much opposition. The west is just tasting the grape sour and jealous over others success thats all. Prof. Wolf says it all. Any country will try its best way to produce the cheapest. Everyone see these but the west & US just could not accept it....a sorrow pill to swallow. Instead of working together to improve, trying to kill others (by sanctioning) is going for a sucidal feat. In the end the BRICS+ countries is going to be rich countries. 4 Reply @roboldx9171 1 hour ago Today, the USA; yesterday, the UK; and tomorrow, China. The centers of innovation are always in flux—nothing remains static or fossilized. The U.S. needs to accept this and learn from the mistakes the UK made that led to the demise of its empire. There's nothing to be done but to go with the flow and accept that the ball has been dropped, and someone else has picked it up. The rush for riches at the expense of others is nothing new—empires have risen and inevitably fallen based on that capitalist model. We need to change the way we approach capitalism. Beyond the West had already lost its status as shining light of the hill or paradigm, the sad part of the story is the West is still preaching others how to run their states that is something global south countries would NOT pay a serious look at all. 2 Reply 2 replies @dave8212 2 days ago Thanks Jay, awesome content from Richard! 3 Reply @tommylynn4270 2 days ago A word about immigration….I’m a small businessman in commercial tire sales and I’m out every day calling on other small businesses in the lumber industry. Reply @YoRock1976 3 days ago (edited) I disagree with Professor Wolff when he dismisses outright that tens of millions of immigrants illegally entering into the US. have no negative economic impact on our country. Leaving aside the political and sociological consequences of this mass migration, the economic consequences are an increase in demand for local services and finite resources. This increase in demand is not accompanied by an increase in revenue, which results in straining the quality and availability of services provided by schools, hospitals and law enforcement agencies, to name just a few. Accordingly, state and local governments must become increasingly reliant on the financial assistance of the federal government in order to function, which I believe is one of multiple reasons globalist elites are driving this influx of immigrants into the US and Western Europe. 5 Reply 2 replies @cat6th363 2 days ago I can't help to feel envious of Prof. Wolff student's. You have one country that has no more ability to grow vs. a nation that has ONLY LIFTED 850 MILLION OUT OF POVERTY WHILE THEY HAVE 1.4 BILLION. Do your math. The remaining population that is still poor would be 550 million OVER 200 MILLION MORE THAN THE US'S POPULATION. That is Indonesua and US combined that the Chinese have room to play with while taking those already beaten poverty to even higher standards. In other words, the US has coasted on fifth gear for quite a long time, and gas has run out in the tank. The Chinese are on 2nd gear, slowly shifting to third gear... 9 Reply 8 replies @gregoryedwards9097 1 day ago Another awesome interview. Great questions to follow up on Wolff. I will say though, George Friedman honestly sounds like a close friend of the elites. This man wrote the book about US and Japan going to war in 1991. It sounds like the preparation for war like they are doing with China right now, as China is in the very same position Japan was in the 80s. He also talked about how the US would dominate the 21st century. He just has a lot of the same characteristics as the guys who are bullish on the US yet blind to the real world, or possibly supporting the agenda, including Francis Fukuyama, Gordon G Chang and Peter Zeihan (Both been predicting the collapse of China for a decade at least lmao). Though he's successful, he's definitely not someone who I would trust in my opinion. 2 Reply @phil.s2245 2 days ago So plaguerised technology and slave wages are to be deemed a virtue. It is SO EASY to do today - you just Google Translate the Chinese term and they actually GIVE YOU the correct pronunciation in AUDIO. So for someone to be so lazy as to not even do this and completely mangle the pronunciation of Chinese names when doing a podcast ON CHINA is to me unforgivable. Zheng He is not pronounced “Jeng Hey” as Jay pronounces it, but sounds like “Jung Her”. Please please just Google translate Chinese names the next time you do a podcast because totally mangled pronunciations come across as really unprofessional to anyone who knows how it SHOULD be pronounced. You only have to do this ONCE and you will know it for the rest of your life. (and for all future podcasts !!) Litecoin is the oldest coin on the market after bitcoin, since its inception in 2011. The scarcity of litecoin is the key feature of its technology. Everyone tends to flock to digital silver and digital gold, litecoin, and bitcoin, when things aren't going well. Litecoin is a decentralized digital commodity, just like bitcoin, but not even close so heavily concentrated in a few hands like bitcoin is. Both have Proof-of-Work consensus, and both have a limited supply of coins. Only that litecoin is lighter, swifter, and hugely undervalued against bitcoin. Litecoin (LTC) being a digital commodity provides a decent inflation hedge as well because there will be mined only a limited number of 84 million litecoins in total. However, it is an absurd way to solve the economic and population problems, not to mention that its lawlessness is incompatible with the legal foundation our country is built on. We have a legal immigration system, which can import the needed immigrants based on our requirement. Currently we have over 10 million illegal migrants coming in from the southern border, if we increase our merit based immigration quota up to 10 millions per year, we controls what kind of skills we want to import, how many people we import, and we know exactly who we import. It has to be a pure academic discussion to criticize European and American people do not like uncontrolled illegal migrants walking in from the open borders because the local people are stupid to understand the economic benefit that these illegal migrants bring to them. In reality, maybe the reason that the common people focus on the harm that the illegal migrants brought to them is to fight a political fight, to stop illegal migrants, to improve and open up the legal immigration system like the one described above, or better. If that is the case, these European and American common people may be more right than the economic puritans. Our success is measured by economics, but not everything is economical. 1 Reply @julians472 2 days ago Professor Wolff is fantastic! Only one of these two nations is in terminal decline or decline of any sort. China's rise isn't even more than 60% or at most 70% of its way to peaking yet, much less declining. By the time China is in decline it's GDP will be roughly 4x larger than the US. It's already something like 50% larger in terms of purchasing power, which is the measure that counts. The societal consequences of deindustrialisation are terrible. We can't compete with China. Not directly. From economic perspective, this tariff totally does not make sense, it will hurt the economy no matter which side you are on, it is a lose lose situation, wrong and stupid. However, from political point of view, to manage the well being of our own country, it is clear as a hell without tariff or other political measurements, American industries will be crashed one by one. To say "American has to improve its productivity" is pure academic naivety and not serious. We have a high wage, high benefit, highly regulated working environment comparing to the developing countries, our working class people are much more conscious with their human rights and other rights related to the workplace than the working class people from the developing countries. We always refer to the tariff as tariff war, everybody suffers, totally negative. However, nobody wants the second world war too, economically speaking everybody got bankrupt. But if we did not fight the war, Nazi fascist could be the new world order. China is a communist country adopting capitalistic economic system for little over 30 years, China can change back to the communist economic system through its political system over night, and no one can stop it, even it means that everyone has to sacrifice economically, because Chinese media are totally under the control of its political apparatus. If we do not like Nazi's new world order, and we went and fought with that political system with real war, maybe it is reasonable if we do not like communist political system to be the new leader of the future, we can fight it with tariffs. We may still lose, like old Roman empire, and we have no one to blame but ourselves. Reply 1 reply @sethmiller5414 2 days ago He is so off base on the quality of the Chinese electric cars.
